Herringbone - Blocks laid at 90° to each other in a V-shape. The most popular parquet pattern. Allow 15% waste for the angled cuts at borders.
Chevron - Blocks cut at 45° so the ends meet in a perfect point. More precise than herringbone - allow 18-20% waste.
Basket Weave - Groups of parallel blocks alternate direction. Works best with square blocks or blocks in a 2:1 ratio. Allow 12% waste.
Straight / Brick Bond - Boards run parallel in staggered rows, like brickwork. Simple to lay - 10% waste is sufficient.
Versailles - A formal French pattern of interlocking squares. Typically comes as pre-made panels. Allow 12% waste.

Always order from the same batch - wood colour and grain can vary significantly between batches.

Acclimatise blocks for 48-72 hours in the room before laying
Subfloor must be flat to within 3mm over 1.8m
Use a flexible wood adhesive - never tile adhesive or PVA
Sand and finish after laying (if unfinished blocks) - usually 2-3 coats of oil or lacquer
Leave an expansion gap of 10-15mm around all walls
Start from the centre of the room for herringbone and chevron patterns
