Around 30 conservation areas include Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth and Strand-on-the-Green. Chiswick has among the highest conservation area coverage in west London. Osterley Park (Grade I, National Trust) sits just within the borough boundary. Around 30 conservation areas protect a wide range of historic environments. Listed Building Consent is required in addition to planning permission for any works to a listed building that would affect its special architectural or historic interest, including internal works.

Thames tidal flood risk affects the Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth riverside areas - significant areas lie within Flood Zone 3. The River Brent entering the Thames at Brentford creates additional local flood risk. A Flood Risk Assessment is required for development in flood risk zones. Properties in these areas should also check surface water flood risk and SuDS requirements.
