Prices include unit supply and installation. Cost increases significantly if the consumer unit needs upgrading, the cable run is long, or the charger is located in a detached garage requiring a new armoured underground cable. Always obtain at least two quotes from OZEV approved installers.

Can I get a grant toward my EV charger?
Yes, in some circumstances. The OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant provides up to £350 or 75% of the cost of a chargepoint and installation (whichever is lower) for homeowners who live in flats or rental accommodation. Homeowners of houses with off-street parking are no longer eligible for the residential grant. Grants are still available for flat owners, renters and for workplace and residential car park installations. The installer must be OZEV approved to apply for the grant. What is the difference between a 7kW and 22kW home charger?
A 7kW charger uses a single-phase 32 amp supply and is the most common type of home charge point - it will charge most electric cars from empty to full overnight in 8-10 hours. A 22kW charger requires a three-phase electricity supply, which most domestic properties do not have. Three-phase supply is common in commercial premises and some older properties, but the cost of bringing three-phase into a standard domestic property is rarely justified for EV charging alone. For most homeowners a 7kW smart chargepoint is the right choice.
Can an EV charger be installed without a driveway?
No - domestic EV chargers must be installed on private off-street parking such as a driveway or garage. If you do not have a driveway or off-street parking you cannot have a domestic EV charger installed at your home. Some local authorities and housing associations have installed on-street charging, and public charge networks are available in car parks and service stations, but these are not private domestic installations. If you are considering creating a driveway to enable EV charging, dropped kerb and crossover permission from the highway authority will be required.
